2017 Kiwanis News

Phew, It's over!

After a very busy build up to the 2017 Kiwanis Music Festival, it's finally done, and I have to say I am very proud of all that participated this year. There were a number of people who did this for the first time this year and played very well in a lot of classes. Many of the students participating placed consistently in the top 3 competitors in their classes, and got very good comments and strong marks while playing very demanding repertoire. Kaitlyn Wong, got a number of 3rd places in her very first festival, Sam Heins demonstrated growing maturity in his playing at his first year at the intermediate level and got some very strong marks amongst stiff competition, Jillian Campbell, got her feet wet and played very well in her first year, Perry and Ryan Rasoldier played well as usual and Laura D'Souza had a particularly good year in her first try at the intermediate category which is open to pianists 16 years of age and under. Laura was thrilled to be asked to audition for the Ottawa Chamber music festival this year, and at the Trophy class, she was awarded the Trophy for the best musicianship and has been selected to play again at the highlights concert on May 20th. Please come out and see the concert if you can, there are so many talented kids in our city!

Congratulations to all and thanks again for all the hard work! I will see you all this week to pick out new repertoire and start making some fresh music!!
